What is Sciatica?

Sciatica is pain caused by irritation, inflammation or compression of your sciatic nerve or spinal nerve roots. It can present as pain going down the buttock, wrapping around the leg or traveling down the leg, sometimes going down to the foot.

The pain can be sharp or burning. It can cause pins and needles. Can be triggered by prolonged sitting or being in certain positions for extended periods of time.

Some common causes can be herniated or bulging lumbar discs, disc degeneration, spinal stenosis or spurs, piriformis syndrome, pregnancy, obesity, physical conditions, and certain occupations.

What will Dr. Nick do?

During the initial exam Dr. Nick will do a thorough assessment to help find what is the root cause. Based on the assessment we can do a variety of treatments from spinal distraction, myofascial release, stretching, electrical stimulation or class IV laser therapy.

Based on your comfort level or physical allowance we can do traditional manual chiropractic adjustments or a more low- force method of Activator Technique or the PROForce Adjuster.
