When our joints (the spaces between two bones) become misaligned or stuck in a position that is not normal, within Chiropractic it is called a subluxation. An subluxation can cause muscles and nerves to become blocked resulting in pain or discomfort. An adjustment helps correct the subluxation by bringing the bones back to its right place.
If left untreated, this misalignment can cause degeneration and of the surrounding discs or tissue. This makes the transition back to normal more difficult as nerves and muscles begin to adapt to this new setup. As the body tries to self heal it will accommodate in other parts of the body.
